English Thatched Cottage Oil Painting



Create your own miniature masterpiece.  This workshop will teach the skills of producing a miniature oil painting.  You will complete a copy of the Thatched Cottage shown in the sample. If time allows, you may also produce a second painting of a subject you choose from photos supplied or bring your own favourite scenic photo.

Inside/Outside Display Piece

This display piece depicts the inside and outside of a shop. The "inside' provides clear shelves within a bay window, plus floor space and bracket shelves for display. You will have a choice of wallpapers.  

The "outside" includes a topiary tree and tudor style frontage.

Wonderful for placing those special minis that deserve to be highlighted in a beautiful display.

  1/4" Scale Kitchen in a Wooden Tea Box


Enjoy making an early 20th century kitchen inside a small wooden tea crate. Your mission will be to paper the walls, put lino on the floor, install wainscotting and a door, then paint plastic furniture to resemble cast iron, wood, enamel and tin. You will also make a wooden table from scratch and cover it with oil cloth, and put seat cushions on chairs.  The tea box comes with a sliding lid, so you can easily transport it for show and tell.

                Wicker Bed Tray and
         Old Country Rose Tea Service


You will create a wicker bed tray and also learn to paint the Old Country Rose pattern on a tea service.  Additional accessories included are:   Tarts, Rose in Vase, Newspaper, Magazine, Cutlery and Napkins.

                  Silver Porringer
         

Learn to work with silver and create a reproduction of an antique porringer (aka porridge bowl.)  The insructor, an accomplished silversmith, will lead you through the steps of miniature silversmithing.

Important Note: Because this is a first time skill for most students, the instructor has reserved additional time on Sunday morning to help you complete your piece.

                  Porcelain Bride Doll
     

This pretty bride comes to you ready to be dressed, and you will choose from 2-3 different heads. You will dress her in a full-skirted white or ivory silk off-the shoulder gown, trimmed with English cotton lace, silk ribbons, silk rosebuds and aurora beads. She will have stockings, silk slippers, and underwear made from lace-trimmed Swiss batiste. This costume, without the veil, makes a lovely ball gown.  Class also includes making a wig from a kit, creating tiny bows and silk roses.

This is not a difficult project, but the results are great.  If you can sew a straight line, you can dress this doll.

Create a needlework cushion on 40 mesh linen, worked in a variety of quick and easy stitches. The instructor will also share her many needlwork tips.

You will string this full porcelain body doll, then dress her in peach silk with ribbon roses.  You will add a wig, and make her straw hat and flower basket full of flowers.

                 1/4th Scale Vignette

Make a wood violin case shaped room box and decorate the interior (including a window).  Complete the scene by dressing a bed, vanity and bench, couch, privacy screen and mannequin displaying a wedding dress.

Corset and Lingerie & Miniature Trims





Learn to create your own miniature trims and use them to put together beautiflly trimmed lingerie. You will complete a corset (usable to dress a doll) and a petticoat. Instructions will be provided for additional lingerie items.  Instructor has done much research into the subject of the history of underwear and will offer additional information for your enjoyment.

Saturday Half-Day (a.m.) Workshops

                      Tiffany Lamp                    
               
Create an elegant Tiffany style hanging lamp shade (chain is included with the workshop). The shade could also be used with a table lamp.  Each student will receive one lamp shade with the "lead lines" pre drawn, ready for colouring and addition of a dimensional coat, plus 'practice' lamps where you can learn the technique for creating the lead lines.
