THE MINIATURES GATHERING - 2002
BLUE MOUNTAIN INN
COLLINGWOOD, ONTARIO
APRIL 19, 20, 21
HOW TO GET THERE!
If you are coming from Toronto or from the east........
The easiest way to get to Collingwood is to drive north on the 400 from Toronto. Head for Barrie.
If you are on the Internet, you can have a look at a map
here...... http://www.sensortech.ca/ontmap.html
If you are not on the Internet, a regular Ontario map will get you up to
Collingwood.
Coming up the 400, watch for the exits and choose the one that
says it goes to Highway #26 - Exit 98. The sign says "Stayner and Wasaga
Beach. Go off on the ramp, keep to the
left, and make a left turn onto Bayfield Street. This is the Franchise Strip of
Barrie, and it is a busy street. Keep going past all the restaurants, past
Georgian Mall on your right, past Toys R Us and White Rose on your right. When
buildings start to thin out, watch for the sign where you will turn off onto
Highway 26. Keep to your left.
When you turn onto Highway 26, keep going until it gets to Collingwood.
Shortcut: Before you get to Barrie, you will see signs that tell you of another route to Collingwood. This one avoids Bayfield Street and goes through Sunnidale Corners. You will have to watch for the signs telling you where to turn. You will end up on Highway 26 going into Collingwood.
Collingwood: Keep to the right on Highway 26 when you get into Collingwood. Highway 26 is only a two lane road, but it widens out just before a turn. You will see on your right ... a Honda Dealership.... Foley's Furniture.... a Car Dealership. At the car dealership, there is a sign saying "26 West" and an offramp to the right. Take the turnoff. You will now be on the Pretty River Parkway. Follow this road as it curves left. It intersects with the main street - Hurontario Street.
If you miss the right turn at the car dealership, go straight ahead to the intersection with the Main Street. Turn right. Keep to the left. Turn left when you get to the lights at the junction of Hurontario Street and First Street. There is a large Loblaw's on the left (south west corner).
If you are coming from west of Toronto.....
Take Hwy. # 410 north and continue through to Heart Lake Road.
Follow Heart Lake Road to Old Baseline. Turn left/west on Old Baseline to Hwy. #10.
Follow Hwy. # 10 north to Primrose. (NOTE: Unfortunately, Country
Miniatures in New Lowell, closed on December 31, 2001.)
At Primrose, turn left onto Hwy. # 89 westbound, following arrows to Collingwood.
Turn right/north at the Esso station,
following arrows to Collingwood.
At Singhampton, follow signs for County Road 124, and proceed through Singhampton and Duntroon into Collingwood.
At Collingwood, County Road 124 becomes the main street - Hurontario Street, and
connects with Hwy. # 26 (First Street).
Turn left when you get to this intersection - there is a big Loblaw's on your
left on the corner.
COMING FROM EITHER DIRECTION.......
You are now travelling on First Street - another Franchise Alley. You will see restaurants on your right and left, including McDonald's Tim Horton's and Swiss Chalet to name but a few. Stay in the left lane and go straight ahead.
You will come to a large intersection. On the left is a sign for M&M and Coldwell/Bankers, on the right is the Best Western. Do NOT turn right at this intersection and follow the signs for Highway 26. Instead keep straight on. You will see a large A&P about 100 yards along this road, on the left. Keep going straight down this road and past the A&P..
If you make a right turn by mistake and find yourself on Highway 26, keep going and watch for the signs that direct you to Blue Mountain Inn. It is a longer route and it goes to the north of the ski hills and along the shore of Georgian Bay, but it will still get you where you want to go.
The road past the A&P goes over a small bridge. Keep going straight ahead. It is between 7km and 8km to the Inn counting from the bridge. The road starts to wind and curve. You will see the ski hills getting closer and closer. You will see a sign telling you that you are entering Grey County. Keep going straight ahead, following the road. When you see the ski hills on your left, do not turn left at the sign for the Blue Mountain South Base. Do not turn left at the sign for the Blue Mountain Central Base. Keep going until you come to a big left curve. Watch on your left about 500 yards past this curve, and you will see the Blue Mountain Inn. It is a large rectangular building and you are looking at the side of it. There are two or three entrances where you can get into the large parking lot.
The entrance at the left of the Inn leads to the front desk. The entrance at the right of the Inn, leads to our Gathering rooms.
You will check in at the front desk, but don't unload any displays or workshop supplies or artisans' mart supplies.
Check in, with your luggage, get your room and take your luggage to your room. If you have displays or supplies, go back to the car and drive to the very right hand side of the building - right up against the base of the hills. Come in through the large doors at the back of the building and the committee will tell you what to do.
Of course you can come through the hotel from the front to the back without going outside, but it is a long trek if you are carrying anything. You may arrive at any time after 4 p.m. and find one of the committee members at the back of the Inn.. Before that time, please leave your supplies in your car. Registration will be closed during the supper hour.
